Formlabs has introduced Form Studio 1, a desktop resin 3D printer starting at $699. The system pairs a 35 μm imaging system with automatic resin handling and supports both Formlabs materials and third-party resins. It launches alongside six Alpha Resins, priced from $29 per liter.

Print engine and build volume

Form Studio 1 uses masked stereolithography (MSLA), with a build volume of 200 × 125 × 235 mm, or approximately 5.9 liters. Its 35 μm pixels work with anti-aliasing to reproduce fine features. A 28-LED backlight and lens array deliver uniform exposure, while an updated release texture reduces the forces involved in separating each printed layer from the tank film.

Formlabs reports an average printing speed of 40 mm/h across materials. Alpha Fast Resin reaches up to 130 mm/h at a 250 μm layer height. The company’s claim that most prints take less than two hours is based on a 53 mm print height, 100 μm layers and most supported materials. Print engine and speed details.

Resin options and open material support

The Alpha range includes Grey, White, Black, Clear, Model and Fast. Alpha Model emphasizes fine surface detail and a matte finish, while Alpha Fast prioritizes shorter print times. True Cast, Flexible 80A V2 and Tough 1500 V2 bring the supported Formlabs launch lineup to nine materials.

Third-party resins are supported through Resin Tank Pro, which is also required for Tough 1500 V2. The standard tank supports Alpha Resins, True Cast and Flexible 80A V2. Material and tank compatibility.

Automated handling and connected software

Automatic dispensing maintains the resin supply, and integrated heating brings resin to its operating temperature. The printer includes a seven-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB-C connectivity.

PreForm handles orientation, supports and print layout, with automatic preparation and manual controls. An integrated camera supports remote monitoring and time-lapse capture through Form Mobile. Build Platform Flex, available separately or in the Flex Package, provides tool-free part removal. Printer features and specifications.

Washing, curing and emissions control

The separate Form Studio Wash+Cure starts at $199 excluding sales tax. It combines solvent washing and 405 nm curing in one unit, with support for IPA, TPM and Formlabs Resin Washing Solution. Wash+Cure specifications.

Formlabs reports UL GREENGUARD Gold certification for Form Studio 1 when used with Alpha Resins and the VOC Extractor. The certification applies to that equipment-and-material combination. Certification details.
