EINSTAR 3D scanners are now available on Do3D.com. Whether you’re scanning your body to size cosplay armor or capturing an existing part to design something that fits around it, accurate dimensions matter. Bring real-world shapes into your modeling workflow to check proportions, clearances and fit before you print.

Design for the fit your project needs

Custom parts and add-ons. Scan a prop, tool housing or other object to reference its curves and mounting surfaces while designing a fitted holder, decorative cover or attachment. Check critical dimensions with measuring tools and build in clearance.

Custom parts and hobby projects. Scan an existing object or mating surface to design fitted mounts, covers or accessories, or recreate a noncritical missing knob or trim piece. Check dimensions, material choice, clearances and attachment points, then test a prototype before making the finished part.

Cosplay armor that fits its wearer. With a suitable scanner and mode, an arm or torso scan can help you adjust armor around its wearer, allowing for clothing, padding, straps and movement before a fit-check print.

Scan. Design around it. Test the fit.

  1. Capture the reference. Choose a scanner and scanning mode suited to the person or object. Follow the manufacturer's body-scanning and light-source guidance.
  2. Import and check scale. Bring the scan into compatible modeling software, clean up what you need and verify important dimensions against real measurements.
  3. Fit your design around it. Model a new part, adjust an existing design or reshape armor against the reference. Add clearance, wall thickness and attachment details.
  4. Test before the big print. Print a small section or inexpensive prototype, check fit and movement, then refine the design before committing to the finished part.

A scan is a design reference, not automatic perfect fit or a ready-to-print replacement part. Body-scanning suitability, computer requirements and export formats vary by scanner. Movement, surface finish and capture quality can affect the scan; tolerances, material and physical fit still need checking.
